Host Your Retreat at nYa Hotel,Montezuma
A simple, well-supported base in Costa Rica’s Blue Zone
Designing a great retreat is part vision, part logistics. You want a space that feels grounded, eals that actually support the work, and a team that can help without overcomplicating things. That’s the promise at Hotel nYa, a calm base in Montezuma where nature, good food, and thoughtful service make it easier to host well.
Why Montezuma works for retreat
Montezuma gives you variety without long transfers: ocean, forest, and small-town pace in a few walkable blocks. Mornings are quiet, the air changes through the day, and there’s always a place to step outside between sessions.
If your retreat benefits from time in nature—short coastal walks, a waterfall swim, or simply birdsong during breaks—this is a fitting setting. And because we’re about 50 meters from the ocean and surrounded by trees, the outdoors becomes part of the daily rhythm without you having to program it.
The spaces: Yoga Shala, circles, and quiet corners
Our open-air Yoga Shala sits in the garden, shaded and naturally ventilated. It’s built for practice but works just as well for lectures, circles, and workshops where you want fresh air and focus. We provide mats, bolsters, blocks, and straps, so your group can travel lighter. If you need extra seating for talks, we’ll configure the room for visibility and flow.
Outside the shala, you’ll find small nooks for one-on-ones, reflection, or breathwork. The pool is an easy reset between blocks. Hammocks handle the quiet minutes when participants need a real pause. In the evening, when conditions allow, our firepit is a natural place to close the day—conversations tend to land well there.
Rooms that help people reset
Retreats go better when sleep and recovery are handled. Rooms at Hotel nYa are simple and
comfortable, with good mattresses, solar-heated showers, organic amenities, and in-room specialty coffee and teas (French press included).
Many rooms open to a balcony or terrace, so mornings can start outside with the first birds. We offer single or twin-share configurations for your group, and we coordinate housekeeping to match your schedule. A small evening treat at turndown keeps the end of the day soft.
Food at Restaurante Agrá: seasonal, satisfying, adaptable
Retreats run on food that’s fresh, balanced, and consistent. At Restauante Agrá, our kitchen works with nearby growers and producers along the Nicoya Peninsula.
Expect seasonal produce, always-fresh seafood from local fishers, and meat options (including steak) prepared with care. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are part of the menu—not an afterthought—and we accommodate dietary needs (gluten-free, dairy-free, low-sodium) with advance notice.
For hosted groups, we can design custom menus that match your schedule and energy needs: lighter lunches on practice-heavy days, heartier dinners after time on the trails or in the water, and snacks that travel well for off-property outings. If you prefer, we’ll keep service low-profile and on time so you can move straight into your next session.
Blue Zone principles, in practice (not just in name)
Montezuma sits on the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the world’s recognized Blue Zones, where many people live longer, healthier lives. The patterns behind that aren’t complicated:
- Natural movement: walking, carrying, swimming, gardening—the kind of activity that shows up naturally during a day here
- Plant-forward meals: beans, rice, vegetables, fruit, and fish—simple foundations that fuel steady energy
- Social connection: time with people you actually talk to, not just pass by
- Downshifting: moments built into the day to reduce stress, not only at the end
- Purpose and community: participation in something shared
We design retreat support around those basics: walkable grounds and village routes, meals that feel good hours later, spaces that invite conversation, and a schedule that allows unscripted time. The goal isn’t to perform a lifestyle—it’s to make the better choice the easy one for your group.
Local partners and add-ons (if you want them)
If your retreat benefits from outside expertise, we have a network of local practitioners and facilitators: yoga, breathwork, massage and bodywork, sound baths, meditation, cacao ceremonies, and movement practices.
We can help you add a Blue Zone farm visit for context, organize a gentle coastal walk, or plan a short waterfall outing without turning your schedule into a logistics puzzle. Tell us the tone you want—quiet, playful, reflective, or a mix—and we’ll suggest options that fit.
A simple 5-day retreat outline (adapt as you wish)
Every group is different. Use this as a frame; we’ll adjust to your content, audience, and goals.
Day 1 — Arrivals and settling
Afternoon arrivals, light snacks, pool or hammock time. Early dinner at Agrá, circle to set ntentions, quiet close.
Day 2 — Grounding and routine
Sunrise coastal walk or easy breathwork. Morning session in the shala. Seasonal lunch. Afternoon workshop block, then free time (pool, bodywork). Dinner that leans plant-forward with fresh fish or meat options. Optional firepit to end the night.
Day 3 — Nature as a module
Morning practice. Midday Montezuma Waterfalls swim or tide-pool wander (low-impact option). Light lunch. Afternoon integration block. Dinner at Agrá. Optional short talk in the shala (guest teacher, Blue Zone context, or Q&A).
Day 4 — Choice day
Participants choose: a deeper practice block, Blue Zone experience at a local farm, or complete rest. Staggered meals so people can eat when it suits their day. Early night to restore.
Day 5 — Close and depart
Unhurried morning session, closing circle, breakfast, departures. We’ll stage baggage and transfers so leaving feels easy.
Logistics and support (the quiet help you want)
We act as light-touch concierge so you can focus on content and care:
- Calendaring of session spaces, dining, and add-ons (with buffers)
- Group room blocks and twin/single setups
- Transfer coordination and timing notes
- Props on site: mats, bolsters, blocks, straps ready before sessions
- Rain plan for outdoor elements in Green Season
- One clear point of contact on our side
If you need participant communications (what to pack, schedules, dietary form), we can share templates you can copy and brand.
Responsible hosting (little choices, real impact)
You’ll see small systems around the property that keep impact low without extra effort: amenity refills, recycling and sorting, and garden care that respects the coast.
A conservation fee is included with guest stays at Hotel nYa. Guests who wish to donate more can do so, supporting ongoing projects in nearby protected areas with our team’s guidance. We’ll keep your group aligned with local best practices—staying on paths, respecting wildlife distances, and honoring quiet hours.
Frequently asked questions
Can your shala host non-yoga retreats?
Yes. We use it for talks, circles, workshops, and lectures as often as for yoga.
What props are included?
We provide mats, bolsters, blocks, and straps. Tell us your headcount and we’ll have everything set before each session.
Can you handle dietary needs?
Yes. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are part of the menu. Gluten-free, dairy-free, and low sodium options are available with advance notice.
Do you offer seafood and meat?
Yes. We work with peninsula fishers for fresh seafood and also serve meat options, including steak. Menus can be tuned to your group.
How many guests can you host?
Group sizes vary. Restaurante Agrá can comfortably handle larger group meals (up to ~80). For room blocks and shala schedules, share your target headcount and we’ll propose configurations.
Can you help bring in outside facilitators or guest teachers?
Yes. We work with local practitioners across wellness and movement and are happy to coordinate.
What’s the best season for a retreat?
We host year-round. Dry Season (Dec–Apr) brings steady sun; Green Season (May–Nov) is lush, quieter, and excellent for focus.
If your retreat needs nature without distraction, food that supports the work, and a team that
stays close without getting in the way, nYa is a strong fit. Montezuma gives people space to
reconnect—with themselves, with each other, and with the place they’re in.
